Next time out to my boat I will try to remember to take a picture. When the 
boom is set for the highest position the block hangs down about 2 feet short 
of the boom but I can't be certain. You want the block to hang down far 
enough so you can reach the block and rethread line if you needed to.

My boom had several (3 I think) small horn cleats with two positioned at the 
aft end of the boom. I use on of these for the topping lift line. I coil the 
extra line (there isn't much) and hang from horn cleat. It seems to work ok. 
You could also turn the line forward around the aft horn cleat and use a 
cleat mid boom to reduce left over line.

There maybe a better way to do this; my boat came this way so I go with it.
