[Rhodes22-list] Rhendezvous Rain-out (nearly) Report - bogg?

Wally, Tom, Stan,

How about Steeplechase Park, and the horse race?

Nathan's is still there. The french fries are as greasy as ever. The hot dogs are better on Coney Island than those sold in the franchises.

The Brooklyn Cyclones, a minor league Mets team, plays in a new minor league stadium on Coney Island that is supposed to be a lot of fun. It feels more like baseball games used to feel when we were kids.

Lundy's is open again in Sheepshead bay.

The botanical gardens are stunning.

The Brooklyn Bridge just turned 120 and is still a marvel.

The Brooklyn Heights Promenade, with its view of the Statue of Liberty, the Staten Island Ferry (used to cost a nickle--now it's free), the New York Harbor, Downtown Manhattan...

And if Brooklyn seceded from New York, it would still be the 4th largest city in the U.S.

It's a great place to live!

Bill

Bill,

I never did the parachute jump, we moved away before I was old enough. I
don't remember if I was to scared or if my folks would not let me. Is the
jump still there? I always thought the Cyclone was the best roller coaster.
If the speed and drops didn't scare you all of the loose rickety boards
would! Typing these emails brings back a bunch of fond memories. Usually it
was my Grandparents who tooks us to Coney Island. Now that I think about it
Coney Island used to have a "freak show" with a bunch of disgusting stuff on
display. My Grandmother really chewed Grandpa out for taking me through
this. Man I haven't thought about this stuff in years!

Wally
