This problem stringer #2 may be related to your stuck centerboard.  Consider
its location and why you have to replace it.  If moisture or water seeped
into the nearby centerboard wall then froze in winter, it may have warped
the centerboard wall.  This is where your friends suggestion on finding the
narrow spot will help.  You may have to sand and refinish the inside wall
for the centerboard.

You may also want to consider drilling a couple of holes in the bottom of
your centerboard keel.  If there is still water there, then you will have to
dry it out.  The above is just a thought and Roger, Rummy or others may want
to weigh in on my analysis.
