[Rhodes22-list] What Stan Does ...

Dave,
What Stan does is unique to each boat and each buyer. Too put it in
writting in more detail than the generalities already published on the GB
website is neither reasonable nor doable. When each prospect for a recycle
tells Stan generally what he wants then Stan has to look what he has on hand
or knows that a seller is willing to sell that will come close to fitting
the buyers wants and price. Somebody may want a recent hull with no
trinkets built in. Stan may have a recent hull with lots of do dads. It
cost to take out trinkets and reglass. And the problems go on from there.
When all is said and done, he has to make a little money after costs of
rebuilding.
Consider the costs of IMF mast. It does not pay for him to put a new
IMF mast on an older boat that came in for recycle with a standard mast.
Those who pay for a 86 recycle could not handle an extra $4,000 for a new
IMF mast on top of the other recycle costs. A member of this list who had
been to Edenton expressed dismay that Stan wanted so much to convert a
standard mast boat to an IMF boat. However, a real inventory of used IMF
mast at Edenton would show that those IMF mast sitting on the barrels
belong to boats already in the lot. And most prospective buyers want IMF
which means that the used IMF's are spoken for. Now he may have an extra
standard mast, but the fact remains not many.
So how does he explain each boats cost to an insurance underwriter? No
way without him have to hire a cost accountant and actuary, let's see, that
would add a couple of hundred thousand.
Most of what General Boats does is in Stan's head. It is not written
down anywhere. And for each boat it is different. He sells a unique
product a unique way to unique buyers, like you.
