Joseph, you may have solved a very similar problem for me.  Engine would not die, but intermittently cut way back, almost to idle - especially in a swell.
Thought I had an air leak somewhere in the fuel line. Battery cable doesn't seem to be the culprit, but in tracing out the fuel line,found it wedged real tight on towards the back. Freed it up and will see what happens.  Many thanks.  Bob F
