[Rhodes22-list] Anchoring in a 5 knot current

For what it is worth, I keep both my Danforth anchors in a plastic basket on
the starboard side under the cockpit seat. I cut a hole on one side of the
basket and a slot on the other. The 1/2" dia. cross bar drops into the slot
and the anchor lays flat. The larger of the two anchors extends beyond the
length of the basket, so I cut a slot to allow the arm to drop flat.

I keep this basket (with 25 pounds?) of anchors and chains from sliding
around by using some of the non-slip material that you can put in
cupboards. I bought a roll that is about 16 inches wide at Sam's Club. I
have it under the anchor basket, and under the Tupperware tubs for spare
lines, and the larger plastic bin that holds the pop top enclosure and in
the cabin, under the cooler to keep it from sliding on a starboard tack.

No, I don't sail flat all the time. I have had fun trying to bury the
rail. I just don't do it when the admiral is on board. She prefers a
flatter experience as she sits with her back against the cabin wall and
soaks up the sun. It only took me one time (my first sail with her) in very
fresh winds to discover she doesn't like getting tossed across the cockpit
as I buried the rail (unintentionally). I have not yet built up the courage
to ask if she wants to sit on some of that non-slip material ;-)
