Bill,

If you get a hard cover, suggest you get a tall one.  I've had the low sleek
ones and didn't like anything about them except the looks.  The attached
picture shows mine.  It has 36" clearance at the window and another 6-8"
forward.  There's enough room to squat around inside and get /arrange stuff.
The hard shell is a little more secure and rain proof.

We're in Chapel Hill about an hour west of 95, near your halfway point.
