Regarding your prospective trek to Seattle: You may be aware that there is  
an active group of sailors on the Montgomery board that sail in that region -

_www.msog.org_ (http://www.msog.org) . They could give you some  input.
 
If your job search isn't settled on Seattle, you might consider the  
Washington DC area.  The Governmentium that Rummy described yesterday  appears to suck 
up any computer talent it can find.  Frankly though, I  think Seattle is much 
better for outdoor recreation.
