Sometimes I like to get the boom up a bit in my
little Potter 15 lake boat when there are guests
aboard. Same issue - get the head-knocker out
of the way.

On her, the gooseneck rides in the sail track
extruded into the mast. To raise the boom, I
drop the main halyard temporarily, reef the main
loose-footed and adjust the outhaul, loose the
boom hold-down, take up on the halyard (raising
the boom the appropriate amount), and tie off
the boom hold-down in the new position.

As you have been talking about adding a mainsail
furler, some of which require a track or attachments
to the mast, why not look at the possibility of
combining functions, so the boom could ride in the
lower track or be attached to the lower end of the
furler?

If you plan to stick with the usual means of reefing
the main, and you have slugs (or the like) on the
main, then the gooseneck might ride in that slot/track.

Otherwise, a collar that clasped around the mast could
be pinned/clamped in place to provide a strong but
adjustable attachment for the gooseneck.
