[Rhodes22-list] Single Handing Trailering

Mike,

The problem of singlehanding the trailer extension can be quite tiring. You
are nearly correct about the not having any mechanical advantage when close
to the "pins." You need to use all of the goodies that Stan put into the
R22. I found that the easiest solution is to SLIGHTLY overextend (pull the
tongue out just a bit too far) and use the winch cable anchored to the hitch
safety chain hook to drag the trailer back towards the vehicle while I wait
for the pin to line up. Wiggling the trailer side to side sometimes helps
the pin to go "home." Height adjustment of the jack wheel can be critical
to proper sliding and alignment. DO NOT FORGET TO CHOCK TRAILER (AND
VEHICLE if necessary) TIRES. If you disconnect the vehicle for this
operation, you can attach the winch cable to the hitch coupler but I find it
easier to leave everything attached.
