Ed,
OK, I checked out my boat this weekend and I can't find anything that resembles clips for the companionway hatch.  I may not have been looking in the right place, but I looked under the cockpit seats on both port and starboard sides and could not find anything.  Am I looking in the right place?  Can you take pics some time?
