[Rhodes22-list] Complaint to List Admin

Although I have been annoyed by Herb's actions at times, I cannot and would 
not support such an action.  Steve (Slim), I think that you have overreacted 
to Herb's recent activity.  This forum provides a method of dealing with 
this kind of behavior through discussion without resorting to administrative 
censure.

Yes, Herb does bully and annoy people, but do we want participants to be so 
afraid of administrative removal that we do not say what is important and on 
our minds?  This is what the world is like and our sailor's bar is but a 
small sample of the world.  I appreciate Herb's intelligence (when he does 
not just shoot the messenger for the heck of it) and those pearls that he 
occasionally publishes such as his friend's blog and sailing adventures.  To 
remove such a person is to lessen the experience of life.  It is for this 
reason that I will not place a filter on Herb's traffic, although others are 
free to do so (Herb has even volunteered to help these people set up such as 
filter, although his motivation for such an offer of help eludes me.)

I think (statement of opinion, Herb) that we can deal with the situation as 
a community, expressing personal beliefs and such, as long as the discussion 
does not become a slugfest or personal attack.  I would ask that Herb think 
a bit longer before responding, lest he respond only to achieve the last 
word.  Others are free to advise that they would not like to hear from Herb. 
Hopefully, through this exchange, we will seek a new level of discussion, 
appropriate to most who contribute to "da list."  Those who are unhappy with 
the traffic as being "not about sailing a Rhodes 22" or too caustic subject 
matter are free to start their own list.
