Lou,
Like manym others I have the original clutch that came with my boat. It
grips the control line, but under heavy pressure will release it instead of
damaging the rudder.

Is the standard cleat used on the rudder head a LANCE cleat?
is it supposed to be in line with the control line of the rudder or
off on an angle? I have a pict I took at GB with the lance cleat
but I seem to not understand how this lance cleat is going to give
way if the rudder blade hits something??

I am using a jam cleat and I know I have to change to something that
will act as a clutch and let the control line out if I ground the
rudder on a shoal.
Lou
