My ideal motor I don't think exists - electric start, 6-8 hp, and weighing
about 75 lbs or less. So what are the best options out there from you
folks' perspectives?  The boat is in a slip on the Chesapeake (Solomons);
while I obviously would prefer to be sailing, we need an engine to get in
and out of the slip and to get home reliably when the wind fails.

Hi Dan,

 I was very fortunate when I bought my Rhodes it came with a 8 hp Nissan
which is made by Tohatsu.
This is the two stroke version and though you have to pre-mix the gas/oil
this engine has performed flawlessly for me under a variety of conditions.
It starts with one pull darn near every time weighs about 55 lbs. runs like
a swiss watch. The 9.9 hp version of this engine uses a larger carb but is
the same other wise. Tohatsu has been making marine engines for over 50 yrs.
These engines can be equipped with electric starters and I believe they also
have a generator which can charge batteries. You can't buy a new one in the
US but I would strongly consider watching e-bay for a good used one.

Just my 2 cents
John Shulick
