[Rhodes22-list] Kindle versus Sony Touch Reader, Experience?

Art probably got plenty of worthwhile replies .... to add my $0.02 .... I've
had a Kindle since rev2 came out and love the darn thing. I'm a habitual
reader and can say that 95+% of my reading has migrated to the Kindle. Got
one for my wife within two months of getting mine. With the wireless web
access I can use it to keep track of nasty weather out on the sailboat, too.

As Art notes, it takes up little room, so it's perfect for a boat. It is
bright daylight readable, also perfect for a boat. It runs for days so for
anything short of a week cruise I don't even bring the charger. If I did
have to charge it, the R22's electrical system is more than equal to the
task w/o even breaking a sweat.

Only minor downside is that since it has no backlighting of it's own you do
need to have the cabin lights on for nightime reading. I've changed
Muireann over to LED cabin lighting so I'm not worried about that either.

Sure, someday there'll be a better tablet, but this thing is very well
optimized for it's stated purpose, being a reading platform. I think other
than the cost getting driven down over time, Kindle's may be here to stay.
