[Rhodes22-list] Dock Lines Redux

I think most of ours are 3/8" but there are a few that are 1/2" that 
we use for the aft cleats. We like 3 strand nylon but have found that 
the cheaper 3 strand nylon gets very stiff to the point of being 
unusable. We do have a couple braided docklines that are spares for 
when we are out cruising. When we go cruising we leave our regular 
docklines in our slip and use the spares in transient slips. When we 
are really organized, we'll remember to mark the lines for our slip 
with a piece of yarn for where they hit the cleat so we don't have to 
be continually saying "does that look right?"  Here on the Chesapeake 
our normal tidal swing is only a couple of feet but storms or steady 
winds from the north or south can combine for as much as a 4 foot 
difference from highest to lowest. Because our marina (and most on 
the Chesapeake) has fixed piers and pilings, it can be a real problem 
getting your boat tied off properly.
