[Rhodes22-list] Hit by a car, can my rhodes be saved?

John,

While you are probably correct about the insurance value of the '81 Rhodes,
why would you separate the deck and the hull? Most of us do not have a
lifting mechanism capable of doing so. I would think that most of the
damage might be reachable from the laz (not very comfortable but it does
provide access to the hull at that point.) When I needed to do a fair
amount of work on my R22, I thoroughly cleaned and repainted my laz before
spending a fair amount of time in there working on repairs. There was
plenty of room for my 5'11" frame in the laz, although I must admit, it
would have been easier if I had lost 30 pounds or so. Pillows helped a lot.

Your point about finding another Rhodes 22 is well taken, although I haven't
seen many for sale lately. As far as the 5% fee for Stan, I believe Alex
said he paid nothing for the boat (it was a gift) so Stan has already
received all the fee that he is entitled to.

I still think that unless Alex is real good at 'glass repair, the boat
should be repaired professionally and the best place is still GBI (and may
be the least costly if Stan is in a good mood.)
