[Rhodes22-list] FW: Chain plate repair

Ron, how much of your cabin top did you replace? I took half of mine out--forward and starboard side--due to soaked and rotted[mostly wet and seperated] wood. Have not cut into the interior top. The rest is fine. Trying to see how to fix both the best way. Would appreciate pictures. Thanks.

    Ed

I kept the original chain plate. I cut out the rotted section of cabin top,
epoxied in a replacement wooden spacer and secured it to the cabin
interior with a bolt through the chain plate. It is a bit uglier since I
have a small backing plate in the cabin top, but it is in an out-of the
way area. I will try to find some pictures.

had done on his boat. I think this is an easier repair than cutting into the
cabin top liner. I don't think sturdiness is much of an issue here as there
isn't much force on this stay. - rob

cutting the interior as I have all my windows out. Is that more sturdy than the
original design? Thank you for taking the time to do that.

block. I used nylons screws for this instead of metal because I wanted the
screws to break if this ever happened again. Didn't want the whole cabin side
being ripped out.

screwed into the cabin top plywood under the cabin liner. What Slim and I both
did was mounted a straight chain plate to the boat and attach it through the
side of the cabin. I'm pretty sure Stan came up with this repair. I'm using
Slim's photo's since he did a neater job than I did. Slim?? - rob
