[Rhodes22-list] I'm wet (with a twist)

When i read ocean sailing and cruising repair guides they all recommend 3m 5200 for below the waterline fittings.  "Permanent" may mean you need a grinder with a wire brush to remove, but silicone is pervious to saltwater from what i am reading. I think it would be ok for a while but would eventually break down.
Silicone is ok for above waterline sealing, but can leave an oozing stain on fiberglass.
