[Rhodes22-list] Center Board Questions and pics

Ric:
The CB should not be able to touch the cap regardless of how it moves.
Certainly mine doesn't. The only way that could happen is if the pin in the
CB is riding up the channels. That should not happen if you have adequate
tubes in the channel. They should also be the full length of the channel so
that they keep the pin at the lowest position but they also act as a shock
absorber if the CB is forced up. I had rigid PVC pipe in mine but others
report having lengths of garden hose. You want something that will stay in
place and not be so soft that it will allow the pin to raise up. I would
worry that clear tubing might not be adequate. I intend to use garden hose
when I reinstall my CB unless someone has a better suggestion.

The line used in my boat was 1/4" braided nylon. It has held up marvellously
for 30+ years. I believe that it is far less subject to stretch than twisted
nylon - which I would not use.

Get decent blocks if you want to use them at all.. You don't want to have to
remove the cap to replace one. Alternatively, it appears that some have
dispensed with them altogether. This would increase the apparent weight a
bit but it also simplifies things considerably. I intent to test the weight
before I install the cap and if the weight is manageable, abandon the
blocks.

The boat was never on a trailer until I moved it Spring '13 and hauled it to
my backyard Fall '13 At this point, I'm not as concerned about the cause as
I am about the cure.
