Joe,
Thanks for the most interesting initial report. Pease keep us informed of your thoughts once you use the traveler while sailing. And a couple of photos when you get the photo-ready mentality would be nice. - rob

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] A little traveler music, please.

Report:

Straight from the rough waters of the Bohemia River, Upper Chesapeake.  Today was the day of decision, day of the new dinghy, day of mid week trip to the boat (retirement is starting to show its appeal... 4 years after I was stripped of my former glory and power).  But, that's another issue.

This issue is the installation of the new traveler.  Getting out to the mooring was a pain in my waterlogged ass.  I cheaped out and bought a low cost inflatable dinghy while I try to locate the leaks that rough winter storage put into my good one.  The new dinghy is a real donkey.  200 yards in rough wind and water in a craft designed for a friggin' puddle left me exhausted.  Oh yeah, the traveler.

It installed easily, but the piece to which the mainsail block attaches is a pinch too small, and I had to unscrew it a bit to allow the rig to attach.  I believe it will be fine, and I can look into buying or making something that fits better.  But it's on and with no real trouble.

After some pulling and testing, I became comfortable with moving the rig port and starboard.  It moves quite easily by using the top lines on the aft of the rig.  Due to the weather, I didn't get out.  I simply did some maintenance and played with the traveler.  Since I am far removed from the photo-ready pocket camera mentality, I have no pics with which to wow you (all).  I'll se what I can do this week.

By the way (not that you will give a rat's...) I came home and ordered a new proper dinghy.  "Hey, it's only money!"  That was what my wife said!  Thirty-eight years, and we're finally on the same page.  Of course, there are many other "pages" I'd like us to co-occupy.  All in good time; all in good time.
