Pulling the jib sheet while holding the furling line is easiest when you are
pulling the jib sheet through a cam cleat and can pretty much control it
with one hand. If you are using the winch and no cam cleat, it is a bit
trickier, but since both lines are fairly long, you can manage both at once
from the middle of the cockpit. If nothing else, use the cleat on the
furling line to help control release of the sail. I'm not sure I have
described it well, but if I can manage, I'm sure most sailors can figure it
out. If you have a steady wind, once you have the jib started, you can let
the wind pull the furling line through you fingers, cleat it, then sheet in
the jib.
