Unless I’m the class wimp, i reef long before 25knots.    Leaving dock in a
heavy crosswind is a bitch alone, But probably not different then any boat
of similar size not having a deep keel (trailerable).   Sailing isn’t bad,
but I don’t show much sail and don’t like gusts hitting 30.   If you get the
captains chairs they provide a great perch with the backstay and push pit
for support while you look down at the water.    I’ve had bruises on my arm
the next day, but never felt like I would go swimming even if spending a few
hours in 20-25 knots in April.   That’s with the main furled to show one 2
and the jib at the aft lower stay or less.    If I’m fighting Lake Erie chop
my personal tolerance goes down.   55 in a squall is plain scary.   I’d
probably look at a different design if I was somewhere like San Francisco
famous for strong winds.
